Without the under seal it would be worse so there is that.

Absolutely, it's really obvious to me when scrapping it all off it saved the car. I guess it made sense to underseal it so well considering it was bought in Montana .
I've said it before, whoever did it originally didn't miss a thing.

Its been over a month since my last update. But I have been doing stuff I promise.

I finally got the rest of the underseal off the over wheel arch. Just a very small bit of welding you might be able to spot.

The doors are in great shape no issues at all apart from the usual hinge sag. I cleaned them internally the best I could. Not any easy task its very tight in places.

Then treated the inside

Also I started turning my attention to the interior for a bit of a change. The original rubber mats are not in amazing shape bit the are still together (just) and original to the car of course.

The mats look good after cleaning. Cool that've survived this long. Your work is looking good.

Maybe you can get some thin black rubber matting and glue it to the underside of the originals so they don’t deteriorate further.

I’ve been thinking of something along that line. I don’t know of anything that’s suitable yet.

In the US you can get this stuff called runner mat, it’s black rubber used to put down on the floor as an anti slip surface. Not sure if they have something similar in the UK at home improvement stores.
It’s nice that your mats are so well preserved. Most became petrified with age and crumbled.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely look into that. It’s always a good feeling to keep originality so much is lost when trying to bring anything back.

Its been a ages since an update. I haven't stopped much apart from a a winter break (garage no heating).

I had to repair the back of the air channel under the wing pictured. Plus rust protect etc its a bit awkward but it was fine.

Looking back from inside the wing.

Looks like mold, but its rust converter. From the nostril in after the piece was welded in.

Then seam seal

And another load of rust converter in the wing

Final bits with a coat of Upol.

Then paprika

Did the same stuff the other side (no welding in nostril).

I forgot to show that the old beam was removed.

Then a new narrowed beam was fitted.

The rear was next gearbox comes out. It was covered in sand and oil, not the best mix.

Then more underseal removal. The back of the car's underseal held up well and is still in great in most areas. Most importantly no additional rust.

Then more Upol

Then colour.

I made it all sound a lot quicker than it was. Next is gearbox back in after a clean new axle seals etc. I will post that when it's done hopefully this week.
