Hey. My wife picked up this '74 Beetle recently and I've started getting it road worthy. We bought it from someone who was going to work on it with his grandson, but he didn't want anything to do with it. He bought it from someone who got it in California so the history on what has been done to it is nonexistent. The body is in fantastic shape and mechanically it is sound, it has an EMPI 36/32 carb, aftermarket exhaust and larger oil pan. It definitely needs some work though. Mainly electrical stuff it seems like.Behind the dash is a rat's nest of unplugged wires. So I'm in the process of chasing down where they go and cleaning up the connections.
There seems to be things missing like heater controls and a windshield washer reservoir and pump which I cannot find replacements for. Some other various things missing too which I've found online at J Bugs and such.
I'm new to air cooled and VWs in general, I had a late 90's Jetta and an Audi A4 back in the day but I'm a Subaru guy that's my Baja behind the Bug, so I'm sure I'll be here looking for advice pretty regularly. |

Buy the orange Robert Bentley Official service manual (Amazon) it will guide you through all your repairs. Wiring diagrams are under "Technical" (top of page on here).
You could turbo it for a faster ride.
