Currently have a very low mileage 54 beetle and the front passenger King pin? Is slightly out as when I push/pull on the wheel, it has a slight play at the 6 and 12 o'clock position. The drivers side is fine. Is it possible to adjust it so I can remove the play? Perhaps some of you have had the same issue. Looking at some of the searched that I looked into, seems like a simple fix? Any help would be appreciated

Grease and tighten the link pins then check again, looking at just the knuckle. King pin repair (done right) requires a press and bushing reamer.

Thanks for.the help as that is also what was said on other forums. Will try it. BTW, is there a torque setting for the pinch nuts or just tighten them as best I could?

yes no need to over think it. even the factory manual 52-57 say's tighten
pinch bolts. no torque value stated anywhere in the factory manual.

hi,

I bought complete built units from a vendor here, link pin and drop spindles, all in one, and they have never been right so I am planning to get in there and dismantle. before I do just wondering ...

so here is a question... as early link pin used 10 shims, later used 8 and a dustcap. will the link pin carrier that uses 10 shims be visibly different to a later 8 shim?

If so, how do I know the difference. My car is '54 so should have 10, but I guess I have 'frankensteined' it a little by fitting these complete units...

The oring style won't work with your original beam. The later beams have a recess to accommodate the ring and special washer.

ah yes... apologies, forgot to mention, I also have an aftermarket beam on there, of questionable quality which I am about to replace.

so... are all aftermarket beams and drop spindles set up for the 8 shim style k&l parts??

I guess I will only know when I take it all apart Think
