Hello! I'm the proud new owner of a 1969 Beetle Autostick, in fairly good shape, but it needs a bit of work. I used to drive a bug way way back in high school, sold it when I joined the Navy and regretted letting it go ever since. I'm glad I've found a new one, can't wait to get it out to drive.
Some interesting finds so far,
This emblem isn't supposed to be there, but I'm not sure if the entire hood was replaced with an older bug's, or, more likely, if someone stuck the emblem on the current hood. The fit and color matching of the hood seem to suggest the latter.
Only half the headlights work, only one wheel brakes, and I'm about 95% certain that the servo is not activating to disengage the clutch. There's loose wires hanging out in places they shouldn't, and a previous owner helpfully cut through the dash at some point to install an aftermarket tape deck.
My goal is to eventually get it back to the state it was when it rolled off the assembly line, but my immediate goal is to just get it safe to drive. That means brakes, electrical, engine tune up, & transmission check. I'm sure I'll be here a lot over the coming months as things come together for the little guy. |
