I've just stolen this news from Burly Burlile's Facebook page. The record set less than an hour ago...astonishing. Very Happy

190 mph? Damn!

What was the old record?
I'm wondering if that was some huge increase.
I thought cars were only hitting 130ish in 1/4 mile runs
(I'm guessing I'm way off though)

Probably Judson supercharged running alcohol and nitro. Hope he doesn't have to swerve as it looks like the wheels have 1" of travel Laughing

Certainly not supercharged. Quoting Burly Burlile: "it is just over 2900cc's, naturally aspirated with old style fuel injection, dry sump on alcohol"
So not 36hp based...runs in the aircooled "Big Block" category.

I think the previous record was around 165mph by the late Darrell Vittone about 3 years ago. Bonneville is a flying 2 runs each way, over a measured mile.

Thanks for that link John. As a driver, holding the throttle pinned for that long, you just start hearing every little sound, every little vibration. You mind starts to wonder about tire or engine failure. Even I was holding my breath in the last 2 markers. Cool

Yeah I was due to drive Britt Grannis's KG on the final day in 2011 but it had a transmission fault so I missed out. I'm no racer so I was kinda relieved as I kept thinking what if I mess this up...it's pretty easy to spin a car on the salt.
I still think people should be impressed when I tell them I've driven a rental car on Bonneville Salt Flats. Laughing

Don't worry it will be inherited by a Karmann Ghia enthusiast, it should be worth thousands by then. Wink
