Nice. I am starting to see a pattern with these early type 3s. It looks like the factory is starting a museum.

The early square virus seems to be contagious. Congrats on the great score Pedro!

You seem to have a few too many Type 3s at the moment -- let me know if you need an extra driver for the Cayucos rally!

Dealer. All radio installs and noise suppression was dealer level upsell. VWs all came "radio prep"... speaker in the dash with wires and an antenna blanking plug on '66 on.

When did the early early oil cooler- the Bug cooler with the adapter plate- stop? Should this car have it or is it too late being an early '63?

Also- would this car have the first design early hood badge? I am also noticing that on the early Variant registry I'm seeing cars with the 'big 1500' logo on the hatch under the "Volkswagen". This is incorrect. I have a hazy memory of seeing an early Vari with a big 1500 on the hatch when I was a young un but I could have been mixing the wrong shit as there's no evidence in the parts book that I can find for this*. However, the memory I have is of the big 1500 as a stand- alone on the hatch, e.g., no "VOLKSWAGEN" script with it. This is certainly more correct.

*That said, there's also no evidence in the parts books of an early early hood for the early "rounded" VW badge. I have a couple of those badges, and the pin "bolt pattern" is bigger on these by about 3mm. Thus, there oughta be an early hood listed for it.

It's possible that they just "upgraded" you to a '63 hood and badge if you needed a hood. I've found that those parts books, since they cater to the repair industry, just tend to eliminate old part numbers as they're superseded. You'd probably need a virgin '61 parts book to even get the correct thing. Stupid things like blue (which this engine should have) and red spark plug wires have pretty much been lost to history.

Pedro:

Congrats, Buddy Pedro!

Will that get the patina theme? Or a full restoration in the works?

Thanks,

Nice Pedro, haven't seen this one yet. I'm guessing you didn't listen to jack and put it in the corner. With the type 3 factory on it I'm sure it will turn out beautiful.

Sleep? That's what meth Patron is for! Very Happy

Pedro, glad to finally see you doing a Squareback. Type 34s are cool AF, Notchbacks are fun, Fastbacks are parts cars*, but to me a Squareback/ Variant is always like coming home. Looking forward to this one.

* It's a joke, son! Wink
