I was looking for the original paintwork on the seat frames and the steering wheel and steering column of my 1966 Type 3 TL Pigalle. I could only find out the color number on the Internet and that glasurit had probably produced the paint. but i couldn't find a shop that sells the original paint. so i wrote to glasurit. Here is the correspondence, maybe it will help someone. If it is difficult to get the paint mixed outside of Germany, I would be happy to help.:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm looking for paint in the original color for my VW Type 3 special model Pigalle, built in 1966. According to my research, the color is called L652 scarlet red.
Will it still be manufactured, or where can I get it?
Kind regards
Answer from Glasurit:
Dear Mr. S.,
the color is known to us.
Every Glasurit paint shop can mix the color in the passenger car series 22 or in the commercial vehicle series 68 with the latest pigments and paint systems.
Both rows are a 2-component system (top coat) and therefore do not require a clear coat, but if desired, both rows can also be coated with a clear coat.
Please have a spray-on sample created for a color comparison before the repair / painting.
Because color tones can change due to environmental influences, care and of course aging.
For further questions we are happy to help you.
Sincerely yours
Astrid Luering
