Familiar with Ghias or not, I'd expect the the same attention to detail and craftsmanship from a reputable shop in any car they turned out.
I don't think the vintage Porsche community would accept that Ghia's overall level of quality in a 356 'restoration'.
A new comment's been added by a former owner of this car. He's got a real bromance going with the seller, claiming that he's a metalworking wizard, and that he's not even gonna bother with Ghias anymore 'cause he's too busy working on blue-chip vintage Ferraris, Cobras, Jags, RRs, etc.
If any of that's true, how could someone top off all that prized metalwork with such half-assed detailing? Even though it's not a 4-cam 356 Carrera GT, you still put in the effort and do the job right.
Bottom line: It sold right and the new owner can re-do the details if they choose. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

I had to respond to that snob.
If that car was a 356 it would get torn to shreds. I guess the builder thought no one would notice how half assed it was, after all it’s just a Karmann Ghia and all those people are bottom feeders in the classic car world I guess?
And if you are going to try and impress with your VW owning creds don’t refer to a bus as a “van.” _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Those comments were just more of the same BS that was shoveled out during the auction. This person had one goal, to make the seller sound like an expert.
But he has already demonstrated what he is, the car he sold told us more about him than anything he can brag about. He may very well do awesome metal work and paint, but he refused to answer people's questions. I could never do business with this guy.
This quote says a lot:
"if you made a criticism or didn’t bid because of a side reflector that was added by mistake....."
"By mistake" ?? Really! And what 356 restoration expert would leave off the engine seal?
I think the car is likely an excellent buy, but it might also be full of hidden rust, we don't know because the seller would not offer up any information. _________________ Marc

That used to be a $5k car all day long a couple years ago. Even the late models are riding the wave, which is great. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I'm not even commenting on this one for fear of what might come out of my keyboard. _________________ Currently own:

Considering that this is a 30 year old restoration, I would have to think that whatever metal work it would have needed, was done in an effective way. I don't get excited over a car like this, but I have to admit, it's interesting to look at. Ghias like this have done quite well on BAT in the past and I suspect this one will as well. _________________ Marc

So……
Will a 1600 with dual Kadrons “peg 90 mph”. There is a claim by a commenter (not the seller) that it should go 100mph
Me thinks not. What say you? _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Damn, that 90s throwback Ghia is at $20k with thee hours left. That’s the kind of car that would have a hard time hitting $10k a couple years ago. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

There seems to be a good market for mods. I'm not surprised. I think it will easily go over $30k. _________________ Marc
