VIN: 10221144 and engine number 10266806
According to thesamba numbers, this car is December 1950, although in every document here in Colombia, it is listed as 1949. I want to know what is the original engine for it, it has some things that don't belong. The most obvious is the oil cleaner, as it is clearly made by the owner. It also has a much bigger carburetor than it should have. My question is, this engine is 25hp? 1100cc?
should it look like this?
I am looking to restore it as it came from the fabric. |

don't both those numbers indicate a January 1951 car? numbers in the chart are the last produced for the month. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

it appears to be early jan. 51 the last 50 in dec. is 1-0220133 .
when you look at the samba list the last # is the last one built that month .
the engine # is also jan. 51 . with later 36hp parts. the good is
it looks to be the original engine case. the bad is I has a bunch of hard to
find 25hp parts missing.$$$ yes the bottom pic is a correct 25hp. 1100cc.
yours may have been built into a 36hp 1200cc at some point . as the piston/cyl
and heads for a 1200cc 36hp are plentiful. carb is a manual choke 30pic.
last 1949 beetle built is # 1-0138544 . your Colombia documents are off. IMO
tail lights are 50-52. I think the car is a 51 by the looks of it.

i'd run that (more efficient and improved) oil-bath air cleaner and use the (less efficient) T-air-cleaner at shows - that's what I did - looks like a clean 36 horse - hot here to pick you apart... pretty car that was updated, as needed.
