Is the plan to use body lead on all the weld seams when you are done with fabrication? |

Maybe they can do it for the other door. That would be cool to see it in action. _________________ Check out my Facebook page: Volkswagen Prototypes. |

I hope that will be the case. They are already using a gas torch for most of the welds so may as well go old-school all the way. _________________ Check out my Facebook page: Volkswagen Prototypes. |

Some more work on the door. This time letting in the finger recess panel which was prepared previously. The handle itself is a Mercedes part.

My guess is that this is just a test to see how the air slot louvres come out. It is crucial to get this area just right.

The inner part of the area that would normally be the rear apron.

Beautiful work, and using modern tig welding. The handle recess seems kind of crazy now to make all thar effort. (I'm talking about the original design), maybe it was an effort to stream line the body a bit more.
Hope the rear lid isn't super heavy to be supported by the small hinge, again details that I'd never realised before.
Great work again from the master fabricators. _________________ When I think of something to say - I'll be the first to know

Photos taken at the Porsche Werk 1 at Stuttgart. Car W30/11 was a factory runabout, painted in a two tone color scheme seen here leaving through the gate in front of the office building.
The other photo taken inside the factory grounds. The dark colored car is W30/14 at this point was painted a dark red. The car behind is probably car 11 again. _________________ Check out my Facebook page: Volkswagen Prototypes. |

More updates from the guys in Germany. The rear license plate trial-fitted. More work to be done in this area including a raised section on the bodywork that will serve as base for mounting the brake light.

And work on the air louvers starts. This area is critical to the correct look of the whole car. Please note this is still work in progress as more will need to be done to get every louver correct in shape.

this already looks much better than the reproduction owned by VWAG. Notice in particular how the detail of the position and radius of the creases around the license plate area is spot-on with period pictures showing the amount of dedication that's going into this work. On VWAG's car the same area is only vaguely similar to the original. _________________ cars:

This revival work on the VW30 is absolutely suberp, congratulations to the team! This motivates me to open my drawer as along the years I have collected a few private snapshots of VW30 from 1937:
This one was shot 1937 at a STUTTGART gas station...nice to compare that progressive PORSCHE prototype with a car that was "normal" state of the art at that times.
Another private period photo, as previous photo probably never published before:
Another one:
Some more in the 1938-1953 gallery. |
