Ok here is a strange one. I just unpacked the assist straps and hardware from my storage box and started cleaning off the residue of 30 years of my parents smoking. The straps and hardware are all the same, side to side but the coat hook caps are different. One has a pointed top and the other is rounded. Is it possible that the car came this way? _________________ When I close my eyes I’m a little kid riding in the cubby..... Priceless!

I've never seen a pointed one, does it look smooth? Or can you see file/grind marks on it? |

Doubtful, VW was pretty anal about quality. I'd find it very difficult to believe the multiple production line inspectors would let a car pass through with mismatched parts. Most likely one of the two coat hook caps was replaced at some point after the car was sold. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

That’s what I thought. The headliner is original and the outline of the coat hooks matches what was in the car. One pointy and one flatter. I know the interior is 100% original because I grew up riding in this car and the headliner bears the marks of smoking, doodling and even the Lego wheel I lost up there while my father was changing the interior lightbulb when I was 6.

Is the rounded cover part number 113 857 637 or is it 113 857 637B? Also, is the car VIN before or after 117 290 084? _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

The pic shows it as a 637A.
Also, I thought you were talking about the earlier model units made of metal. You can disregard my comment above. Sorry. |

The rounded top coat hook is part number 113 857 637 B. With an F below it. The car vin is after the vin you posted. _________________ When I close my eyes I’m a little kid riding in the cubby..... Priceless!

The pointed 113 857 637A covers (one year only part) are correct for your "after" VIN car. Earlier production '67 models still used the older 113 857 637 (no suffix) covers found on '60 through '66 models. Your rounded 113 857 637B cover is a replacement part (introduced on the '68 model Beetle). _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |
