Hello- I have removed the transaxle on my replica Kubelwagen (1973 type 1) and will send it to be rebuilt (will not stay in reverse). How does one remove the rear mounts, pictured here. Geometry seems to prevent just pulling it off. Is the metal bracket pushed off the rubber? Or...? I don't want to go beating on this, or mess up the housing. This is all new to me. Thanks. |

Look again. That is a 3 piece mount. Your pic shows the lower bolts that need removal. |

GOT IT. Thanks. My previous post was done late in the day. I was played out by the time I got the transaxle out. As said, it's new to me. At one point I was wondering if these very bolts were holding the transaxle in place but figured out that the bigger 21mm were the ones, and boy were they torqued on there... 150 ft pounds or something. When under the car, confused, I could not budge the bolts you reference, then tried the "nuts" (which are affixed to the cradle). Wisely/luckily I stopped fighting them at that point. Anyway, all is well. |

That's a lot of guessing on what's what and torque values. Pick up the Bentley manual, you'll find just about everything you need there. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

The frame horn bolts are 166 ft. lbs., so 150 isn’t too far off. |

I know it sounds crazy but I’ve seen a car pulled off jacks using a cheater on the end of breaker bar for those. Look out. |
