2017cc, Italian IDAs, 120 cam, etc etc.
It will fire right up from sitting overnight, and run great...drive it at freeway speeds (55-65mph) then shut it off, and it cranks and cranks won't start. It finally does, and runs like crap..if you feather foot it, it runs okay, but as soon as you stick your foot in it, it pops and surges, and just generally embarrases itself. Get it home, won't start. Go in the house, wait an hour or so, starts right up, runs good. Replaced the German 009 with another German 009 with new Bosch points, condensor, rotor, and cap, does the same thing. Replaced new German Blue Coil, with used German known good blue coil- same thing.. Fuel pressure steady at 3.5 PSI, where is has been for 20 years..Jets are all clean, needle and see ( the big 300 for IDAs) seem to be fine...both carbs getting plenty of fuel..what am I missing here? plugs look like coffee with cream..

Even when it's acting up?, or in the driveway after it's cooled?

Dirty carb. Bad float needle. Failing fuel pump. Dirty fuel filter. Just some obvious ideas...

Vapor lock? Fuel getting too hot? It was in the 90s here a couple days ago.

Bad ground? Spade connectors at ignition switch or coil getting loose?

Had these things drive me nuts and it ended up just being a loose wire..

Check voltage to/from coil when hot and then when cold.

Old battery? Charging system funk? Yes I said funk.

Is your fuel vented, you could be sucking a vacuum in the tank. when you have the problem try to open the cap slowly [NO SMOKING] and see if you can hear it suck in air, be careful it can spit gas out.

You have pic of the back of the engine bay? Let us see what you got there.

Are all the tins present in the engine bay? Any power-pulleys?

Mine did the same thing a few months ago. Points had closed up. They were new. I Reset to .016" and started right up. Still fine.
