At the moment it's in fine shape. She runs like a sewing machine.
Thanks for the heads up though. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

I just received a package of documents from theghiagirl. I cannot begin to thank Lisa enough!
I have the complete ownership history and documentation confirming the mileage as correct at just over 67,000. The H code engine is the one that was installed the day Joan was built.
She was sold new on April 28, 1967 By Ted Trudon VW in Talcottville Ct.
That owner had it until 1978 when it was sold and resided in Spring Valley NY for 14 year then sold to New Jersey resident who then had it for another 15 years.
What is amazing is the New Jersey owner purchased Joan in 1992. I have the title receipt showing the odometer reading was 66766 miles. She seems to have virtually sat for the last 29 years. Joan has only seen another 344 miles!
She was sold again in 2007 and moved to Illinois for a couple of years. Despite 1967 California black plate Joan in reality an east coast girl. She spent her first 40 years there.
Credit Lisa for the California vibe Lisa acquired her in August of 2008 moving her from Illinois to North Hills Ca. and commenced the beautiful restoration.
In May of 2012 Lisa sold her Karmann Ghia to VW of Alhambra Ca. who displayed her for eight years until April of 2020. Joan spent a month on the used car lot and was purchased in May of 2020 by Samba member brezelfenster52 Dustin Howell.
BAT connected Joan to me in August to me her 8th caretaker. It's still hard for me to believe! _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Your in this deep! It’s not everyday you find a plate frame from the og dealer who sold your car.
Too bad it has the Porsche emblem, explains the Porsche asking price for it though. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I agree, it might be considered an overpriced trinket, but to have, and match, a license plate frame from the original dealer, that has got to be rare to obtain. Like Brau said, in this deep......

Excellent that you now have Joan's entire lifeline!

Hey- Spring Valley is just 2 towns away from me! Do you have any records of work done at the Spring Valley Volkswagen dealership? From '78 for a few more years it may have still been known as Charles A. Haigh VW. In the 1980's the dealer's new owner, Barry R, was a Ghia enthusiast. His service manager was fixing up a red '67 Ghia Coupe, and the body shop did some minor collision work on my '64 Cabrio in '88.. |

No service records from that dealership. Cool info though! _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Dude, compared to what you paid for the car, you're going to let this rare find go ? And I KNOW those NOS wheel trims weren't cheap ! I have original frames for some of my cars and it's a really cool thing to have. But on the other hand, cost of car, NOS wheel trims... this stuff adds up to expensive fast. On the third hand, though, you only live once! _________________ -Kent (BaT "daleallen")

Based on Everett's photo of the VW-only frame above, you could make a reasonable facsimile for a frame with this:
https://bestlicenseplateframes.com/custom/car-lice...gJhdvD_BwE
Choose blue/white, and either Arial or Georgia Bold font. Note on the order to leave enough blank space on the bottom row at each end of the "text box" to apply a VW emblem which you source yourself, unless the company has the ability to make one (trademark violation?). Or you find 2 chrome self-adhesive emblems which are small enough to still fit onto the chrome frame outboard of the text box. Like a pair from this set: http://beststickers.net/volkswagen-domed-key-fob-emblems |

The Cincinnati Volkswagen Club hosts their VW/Porsche Reunion at Germania Park the last Sunday in September. Save for the “killer bees” it was a typical gorgeous early fall day in Ohio
I mentioned previously that Joan had only travelled 344 miles since 1992.
She made the 200 mile round trip in stride up & down I-71. 65mph seems to be the sweet spot although I hit 70 plus for a couple of short moments.
It was in the upper 40’s when I left out in the morning. I engaged the heat exchanger levers and was rewarded with glorious heat! A first for me in an air-cooled VW.
I’ve never had working heat in any of my previous Ghia’s. Sophia was purposely build without heater boxes.
The show drew over 300 VW, Porsche & Audi’s.
Joan was a point of interest and was awarded her first “Top 50”.
Fun day with my grup of VW buddies😎
And yes, I broke down and made an offer on the dealer plate. On its way

Congratulations on Joan's first show results, and the pleasurable drive! Were some spectators doing double-takes as to how correct and overall beautiful the car was? Usually you only see that level of factory detail on Porsches. |
