|
|
I have this vintage dual port 40 HP engine that was hydrolocked that needed torn apart. It has dual 32 NDIX carbs with Deano Dynosaurs linkage and air cleaners. Previous owner told me it was in his "buggy"? Anyhow, I tore down engine to find bent crank and rods(stock). It appears water or gas got it combustion chambers then he tried turning it over.
I am going to put engine back together but I found that the cam in the engine is pretty radical. I don't know enough about cams to know any different.
I had the cam degreed to find out:
Lift - 318
Duration - 290
The heads are normal dual port 1600 heads heavily milled to fit 40 hp. Combustion ratio seems to be 8.5:1. I have some Euro dual port 1300 heads also that I might use. Will have to see the difference in valve sizes/ chambers.
My question is:
What lift/duration cam should I use to make this a little more streetable. It seems this would have to run at high RPMs to get power.
I have engine mocked up with stock internals at the moment and NOS 83 pistons/cylinders. |

Are you using stock ratio rocker arms our high ratio rocker arms .... |

I believe they are stock 1600 rockers. If I need a higher ratio rocker for a particular cam, I am all ears. |

For your setup right now you can look at w90 cheaper cam, w100, or w110 all those cams can be used with 1.1 stock rockers or 1.25 rockers 8 -8.5 compression for those cams ...Google them and see what's best suits your setup .... |

What is the overlap that will be the key to street frendly motor. More overlap= less frendly. You need to cc the combustion chambers of the other heads to make sure they don't raise the compression too high. |

Here is the engine mocked up for now with stock cam. The performance cam that was originally in this setup has a overlap of 75*. Still looking for suggestions on cam choice.
