well i had to remove the lever arm and cable as one. then i tried to remove but the ball and socket but they were fused. then i tried to use a hack saw since i dont have a dremel. got the cable socket off but did a little damage to the ball. probably will have to get a new ball mounted stud. i measured the ball and it looks like it is a 8mm diameter. now all i have to do is find a ball stud that is 8mm. any ideas? thanks for the info it helped i was getting frustrated with the removing of the cable.

some lift support systems use an 8mm bolt on stud.
but if it's just a knick or even a groove, sand it smooth put quality non-washout grease in the new cable ball socket and it'll outlast your use of it.

Just completed this project with no issues to talk about. Took about 1 to 1-1/2 hrs. without a lift.
Cable attaches to the upper part of the kick down lever @ the transmission and just needs to be pried off the socket- no c-clip to remove. That c-clip is located on the ball of the selector lever cable @ the bottom of the kick down lever and must be removed first before prying that ball from the socket.
Note: Make sure you attach the cable end thru the clamping bolt with the cable facing inward towards the spare tire holding rack- very important to prevent binding when gas pedal is depressed downward.

Otherwise: everything provided so far is accurate. Hope this information was helpful.

Replacing my accelerator cable (auto trans) and can't seem to get the cable (socket) back on to ball (on the bracket). See photo.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

With the clip in place in the socket, the socket does not fit over the ball. I was able to pry the socket off the ball with the clip in place, but can't persuade it to fit all the way back in.

If I take the clip out of the socket, it fits over the ball no problem, but I can't get the clip to go back into the socket. Anyone have some guidance on how to get the clip into the socket? I musta spent an hour or more fiddling with it.

Thanks in advance.

I just used a pair of pliers and pushed it back on using the clamping force of the plier jaws.

Does anyone know, is the ball on the kickdown bracket steel? Mine is loose and I'd like to put a small weld between the ball and the bracket.

thanks!

yes, it's steel but needs to work very smoothly for proper function

i'd suggest just buying a new ball end
