What's the bedliner "mod"? Bedliner has so many applications nowadays.

I glued some old tokens underneath, covering holes, then sprayed the undercoating both sides.

Wow!

Thanks for the reminder!

Both of my front door foot wells are rusty, not to the point of being gone but they are indeed porous and you can see the road go by.

I need to properly weld in some new metal but I can see that this proper fix probably won't happen before the snow flies in 2021.

So, as a gap stop measure, slow the decay.
I am NOT a fan of silicones or fluid films or other creeping rust stop if you plan to properly make repairs in the future. The residue of such products is quite simply a PITA to clean up!

I think I will simply scrape off the loose scale and hit it with a few coats of Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer.
I will then probably screw on a sheet of metal with a non silicone caulk between the new metal and rusty step to block water ingress.
Easy to do, easy to remove and no nasty residue to clean up when the time rolls around for a proper repair.

The genius who designed that foot pad attachment should be strung up!

Dave

Have you done your temporary repair yet, Dave? I'd love to see how it turns out.

We take out both rubber footwell covers after every trip and clean and dry both metal and rubber. I agree that's an awful design - practically built to guarantee rust. :/

Thanks. My footwells have seen better days but I probably won't do the full repair (who am I kidding--I probably won't get the full repair done) until spring.

I pulled the rubber out and sealed the holes with some JB Weld SteelStick. A little janky but I'm just going to sand it down and cover with bedliner so ndb to me.

I’ve perforations on both steps.
I need to do a quick and dirty repair for the coming Winter.
It will probably be a fast and dirty fiberglass patch for now.

I know you can buy the patch panel from BusDepot But I think I’ll form my own to weld in eventually, it isn’t beyond reconstruction.

Huh, I've never even thought about just welding the holes shut. They certainly do trap a lot of water below the rubber pad. I tried gluing it down to keep moisture out, but there's no reason I can't weld the holes shut, cut the plugs off the rubber cover, and then glue the cover down. Might reduce road noise too.

Some without welding abilities have epoxied electrical box “knock outs” to seal the holes.
