Hi, new guy here. I am about to buy a '69 T2 bus. it comes with an aftermarket fiberglass topper that is over 20" tall and runs nearly the full length of the roof. it is not installed, but was installed on something else at one time. the original roof is intact. the bus need a lot of work but the metal is pretty good. especially after looking at some of the resto projects on this forum that people have done.

I have seen VWs with this thing installed, I also assume that whoever made them is no longer in business. what I want to know is.... anything you can tell me. first off... is it a good mod or does it turn into a nightmare. are there instructions available somewhere?

no problem doing the work. I'm a (semi) retired aircraft mechanic & have a brake, shear, roller, bead machine, mill, lathe, MIG, TIG and gas weld, etc

OK.... having 2nd thoughts about this particular topper. 1st, it's condition is not that great. I would need to work on it. 2nd, I don't think I want that tall & long & such. it's a cab-over design and I don't think I want to do that... I don't need that much space.

That said, I would like to be able to stand up in it so I'm thinking of doing a pop up. anybody done that? or a Westie conversion?

You haven't posted pictures, so we can't comment yet.
Hi Top buses are nice for camping/standing up in!
I would slice & dice the fiberglass to put on your bus if you want a camper.

Was the 69' a westy or a tin top? I am looking for a fiberglass westy top for my 1970 Westfalia the was damaged during transport. If you were getting rid of a westy top Im interested.
