The original link is dead, but the Internet Archive Wayback Machine still has this:

There were more pages there about "spooky" the bus, you'll have to see if you can
dredge them up.

I had to do mine on my 76 Westy last year as one of many repairs I did for the first time. It was tricky but a key tip from a local shop that does them was to strap the sliding door in place (closed) and then tack the bottom rail in place. It was tricky to line up but fairly straight forward to do with a helper.
The only thing I would do differently if I had to do it again would be to move the bottom rail in another 1/16" so it will remain tight even after the rail loosens up from use.

See my build thread link in my signature for pics but the above link seemed really good for a step by step process.

There's a number of threads on that job here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/search.php?searc..._chars=200

Kind of off topic but some guy on YouTube had a rotted lower track and used a strip of L shaped angle iron screwed in place. He ground the entry/exit lips of the strip and claimed the door rolled a treat.
I know its not ideal, but it may get you some time if you want to use your bus while getting up the courage.
