Next, door handle seals. Easy, straightforward also, but I have a new lock/key to install in the driver's side door handle. I couldn't figure out how to get the lock out of the knob, I suspect it is the (very) small screw that holds it in. I tried to get it loose, but I don't want to force it. It would be nice to be able to lock my car. Any help in this area would be nice.

My above question is basic, what holds the tumbler into the door plunger, that tiny screw?

So, back to fiddling with this car, I got to thinking about the seal (it disintegrated upon removal) that surrounds the thumb plunger button. I had a brainstorm about using an O ring. I took the passenger handle apart and took the part to the hardware store. Yesterday when I did the door handle seals and without this seal, the thumb part of the handle sticks out further than the rest of the handle. Look at the picture two posts up ^.

Here's the O ring installed:

And now it rests equal to the rest of the handle:

All around, it rattles less and fits better!

The Firestone wide whites just became available in SoCal, so after going back and forth on blackball/whitewall, I took the plunge.

Love the wide whites. When I lived in SoCal, I could get them (Firestones) from Lucas Automotive in Long Beach.

I had a paintless dent removal guy do my bug today. It's hard to tell from this lighting in these pictures, but he took about twenty small dents and dings out. I'm pretty happy to improve this original body as much as I can. We did it at my friend's shop and he had a good used door trim that we put on the car. Mine was dented when the door suffered a slight dent. All in all, its a big improvement.
