That power plug appears to only have 2 wire attachment points, the third one looks to be a contact strip for the unit to go live when the socket receives a plug. I could be wrong there though, but that is what I see in the pictures. _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

I googled 1J0919309 pn from OP's linked ad. To my eye, pics below show the tang on black bulb holder as contacting the LH pin (as shown) to bring + to bulb. I assume that black bulb holder has another contact to cig outlet housing (ground). In the ad linked by OP, that black bulb holder appears to be partially slid off the housing.

4th wire? It only needs three. Positive, ground and power from the headlight dimmer for lighting the circumferential ring |

Is there any possibility a faulty ignition switch could cause an intermittent crank/no start problem? _________________ =BCE56=

What do you mean? Does it crank, but not start, or not crank at all? |

Cranks always but sometimes does not start.
Aftermarket ignition switch was installed a year or two ago, that fixed a no crank/no start episode. _________________ =BCE56=

Jump the ignition leads at the switch and see if it starts when cranking. If not then it's not the switch. |

I have a spare switch. I'll try bootlegging it in tomorrow. _________________ =BCE56=

Actually the ground tree/crown was cleaned bright and shiny about 5 years ago and covered with dielectric grease.
Then some fool thought the teak cup holder needed to be resculpted with a 10k RPM sanding grinder and wow, crap all over the place. |

Regarding timing a 2.1 DigiFant;
I understand that placing a white mark on the pulley 2" to the right of the U is 35 deg. How many inches is 45 deg? _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

Pulley diameter of N in inches. Circumference is 3.14159 x N = C. Since 45º is 1/8 of a circle. C divided by 8 is the number of inches for 45º |

Math? Ugh!
So, anyone know how many inches around the pulley is, or the diameter? _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

From memory it's about 6 3/4" though you should check it before running through the calculations. Why do you need to know where 45° is? |
