I have a 1969 Single Cab, 4-Speed, 1584cc with a carb that has been in storage for about 10 years so I put in a new battery, a couple gallons of gas and tried to start it yesterday. Since there was no gas going through the filter I poured a bit into the carb and it would start and run till the gas was gone. I figured on blowing out the hose in the event it was clogged but when I checked this morning the coil (Bosch) was warm to the touch. The key wasn't on and I did a search on this site but didn't find anything specific to my issue, any thoughts on this?
Tks

Use a VOM or test light to see if the coil is getting power with the ignition off.
Probably a wiring problem, not a coil problem. |

Sounds to me like you forgot to turn off the key after the engine used up that gas you poured down the carb. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

That turned out to be the issue, but in this case I had pulled the key without turning it all the way off so it was still providing power to the system. Been gone most of the day but will check the points and replace if necessary. Have to go any buy a new fuel line since the old one had been showing it's age and didn't fare well when taking it off to clear the line to the tank. Hoping that was what was preventing the fuel from flowing but will test the fuel pump (manual) tomorrow to see if that was the issue.
Appreciate all those that offered assistance, so hopefully if someone else has a similar problem they will read this before thinking, "Maybe I'll post that to the forum and see if anyone knows what to do". Thanks again! _________________ SB |

If the key comes out in Any position but “off” the lock cylinder has shuffled off its mortal coil, unrelated to the ignition coil.
Your points will be fine. _________________ .ssS! |

Honda makes rubber fuel line in the correct 5.5mm size. I buy it on eBay. I also use spring clamps.
