Congratulations on Joan's first show results, and the pleasurable drive! Were some spectators doing double-takes as to how correct and overall beautiful the car was? Usually you only see that level of factory detail on Porsches.

The ones that really stopped to take a closer look seemed to enjoy her. There were a few working on projects that took photo's. I did include some history of Joan. If someone was inclined to read it the would have realized the details
Interestingly Sophia is more an attention magnet Laughing

I installed the NOS Beauty Rings from Alex and his crew at ISP West.
He said they were just waiting for this moment after sitting in a box for 50+ years.
Of course the rings needed a bit of polish but WOW! They are some serious jewelry. VW should have put a warning in the owners manual to make sure not to use a pry bar or screwdriver against those soft aluminum rings to pop the hubcaps. Unfortunately almost everyone did.
The wheels now look really fantastic😎

**gasp!** You didn't use Autosol for the polish Shocked ?? Okay, I kid (though it's the best Wink ). Seriously, what a splendid difference those trims make against that shiny red car... WOW!! Applause

Now, if you EVER take your car into the shop for ANYTHING, remove the trims FIRST! Don't question it, just do it Shame on you . There will be no reason whatsoever to touch your wheels, BUT invariably, the trims will come back damaged! Because the shop/mechanic (insert stupid excuse here!) Fair warning Cool

So, years ago I made a "custom" puller. It consists of coat hanger wire and fuel line. Works great!

Nice!
Are these really something that can be taken on and put back on at will?
I am only familiar with those that can not be put on at all and come off whenever they wish.

Yes, indeed. To further explain King's response, the inner edge of the ring is held down by the bottom edge of the hubcap. The hubcap sits snugly against the rim center hub, kept in place by the 4 wedge-shaped bumps in the wheel hub that catch inside the hubcap. You can see the 4 bumps on this stock-style wheel from Stock Steve's gallery-
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The outer edge of the ring rests against the outer shoulder of the rim. 4-bolt rims had various widths (4.0", 4.5") and offsets (ET40, ET34, ET41, ET46) so that the ring really needs to be matched to the rim so that the ring's slight bevel outer edge presses slightly against the rim, pressed down by the hubcap. On properly fitting rings, there is no relative movement between the ring and the wheel, nor is there any friction from retaining prongs, etc. So "ideally" the ring can be removed and installed many times by pulling off the hubcap before there is any scuffing of the rim paint.

This particular rim has a deeper dish than for an OG Ghia rim- the hubcap contact surface is farther down/inward/deep than the outer edge of the rim where the outer edge of the ring would sit. If Steve attempted to install the Ghia beauty ring, the outer edge of the ring would rest against the rim but the center edge would be about 1/2" up off the rim. The rings would not be able to be correctly fitted.

Great info Rome!
On another subject, The license plate frame from the dealership where Joan was sold new on April 28, 1967 arrived today.
After Flitzing” it I deciding that it looks really nice with the paint chipping and chrome pitting. I think it adds character 😎
Ted Trudon Volkswagen
Terryville Conneticut
Peer pressure Laughing
And yes, those are old pushrods that the seller used to reinforce the package from bending. Ingenious!

Very cool! I was wondering if you were going to have it restored or run it as it has aged. I would have run it as is. Great minds! Laughing

Your license plate even looks like old CT — blue and white!
Now anyone have a New Milford Motors one?

Show season around here is winding down around here.
We had a local car show just around the corner.
Drove Joan, called the wife who picked me and took me back to the garage. Grabbed Sophia the 3 miles to show.
So much fun!

"Winter Is Coming"
I believe that's the line from Game of Thrones.
I may be able to get Joan out a time or two before calling it quits for the season.
Just want to thank you all for the positive vibes.
It truly was a dream come true! Cool
My plans are to submit an application for consideration to the Ault Park Concours in Cincinnati. Ault usually has a fairly high bar for selection but I think she has a good chance.
A may also might try the Dayton Concours. I've had Sophia there a couple of times.
I have some prep work to do over the winter. I have one nagging issue, the battery.
I would love to find a vintage style 12v battery that would be correct for our Ghia's. I've searched high & low. No luck. Any suggestions?
