I had a heavily modified 181--three axles--and always wanted to put a Squareback engine in, but............one of the projects which never came to pass.
Even though your AC works, take a look at djkeev's recent AC topic as they can be finicky. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...highlight=
Also there has been a bunch of talk recently about painting the roof white to assist in reducing the AC load. Even though Dave-djk-has completely redone his AC and lives in Pennsylvania, he painted the roof white. Since you live in Utah, in spite of having a relatively light colored car, you might want to consider a white roof. He used a $20 Tractor Supply version.

Great thread! Your enthusiasm is infectious. I loved my '85's, all three of them. I had two tin tops in a row like yours that were rock solid. _________________ Joe T.

That’s great Duncan thanks brother, we’ll check that thread out for sure.
You are the first person I’ve come across that mentioned the temperature benefits of a white roof - I was telling wifey I read something somewhere one time, a white roof can lower the interior temp by up to 30 degrees. Now I don’t know if this is exactly true, but from a common sense point of view, it’s got to lower the inside temp a little bit, right? Also, white roofs look great in my eyes, so why not! Also, look at the burgundy/copper bay in the previous pics….. that’s a $20 Tractor Enamel job right there 😁😁😁 |

#1 "Bessie"
#2 "Action Van"
I have considered digging up the VINs, seeing if they're still out there somewhere, and bringing one or both back home. _________________ Joe T.

Action Van is living in Moab, according to Carfax.
Those wheels are steelies with early Vanagon Wolfsburg hubcaps.

They pop up from time to time in the classifieds. I got mine at a bug meet for five bucks. The seller said, "you know these are for a Vanagon, right?" _________________ Joe T.

Fuel line kit ordered. It seemed that Go Westy have stock and everywhere else is out. The wait for delivery excuses begins.

5/16 ethanol rated Fuel Injection line is available everywhere off the shelf.
So are fuel injection hose clamps.
Be sure ti do fuel pump to fuel filter and fuel filter to engine feed pipe.
Eliminate that stupid plastic firewall fitting if yours is still there.
Dave |
For sure Dave. I spotted that firewall fitting, it looks so brittle. Is it made of that Bakelite stuff or whatever it’s called? That’ll crumble any minute. I was thinking about pushing a rubber grommet in there instead and doing away with it completely.
I priced out the hose at House of Hose and the clamps and it was more than this kit which blows my mind. I guess we can blame”covid” for the overinflated pricing. I’ll grab a couple of lengths to do the extra parts as you mentioned.

Excellent bike, I’m a fan, you’ll love it! We are two minutes from their HQ which is pretty impressive. The bikes we have are all we will ever need for a quarter of the price of the big names. |

Waiting for fuel lines. Waiting for payday. Today the wifey had some serious math homework to get on with. I'm crap at math, so I went out and familiarized myself with Freddie some more. Cleaned some of the engine bay. Traced brake lines, fuel lines, and coolant lines and inspected them as well as a good long look at everything underneath, nothing much to report really, just making use of a couple hours free time so I'm less of a Vanagon noob. Hope you all had a good weekend!

The best thing I (eventually) did to learn about my van was to go through every testing procedure in the protraining manual.
Here's the version for digijet.
https://www.progettosnaps.net/manuals/pdf/digijet.pdf
Doing this gives you a great tour of the whole engine management system, helps find any problems, and establishes a baseline. I like to do this annually now as preventative maintenance.
Just a suggestion, have fun. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage
