I need to replace my broken hinges. How do you remove the pivot pin or is it a rivet?

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Are they ground off or drilled out maybe?

If so what are they replaced with?

I checked the oacdp PDFs and found what I thought were them but did not find a corresponding description to match the number.

Thanks for any help

It's a special rivet . . . It has a shoulder for the hinge to pivot on while the rivet remains tightly set.
Since it is not typically serviced, you will probably not be able to find a new rivet to match (not that you would be able to properly set a new rivet in that location anyways!).
After you drill it out, you might replace it with a bolt and nut along with a spacer.
All the best on yer project!

depending on your level of restoration, you may want to find a good glove box section from an oval dash and replace the bracket with both hinges.

With this being a 56 body/69 chassis hybrid, I guess I'll go the nut and bolt route.

Thanks for the info

Interestingly, the factory manual ('52 to '55) describes this special rivet as being a "screwed rivet". Makes me wonder if the earliest version of this rivet (early Zwitter?) was different and could have been removed without destroying it.

Joined this party a bit late, but have a 54 oval with glovebox welded shut, what hinges are, they look same or similar to Ghia glovebox hinge?

Thanks Mark
