I dug this out of a box of old stuff I have, and assume this for a canadian standard! Note the imperial gallon measurements, and the note that says "car only"! A deluxe wouldn't need a fuel gauge like this one, only a standard. The true meaning of old school, stick it in the tank and see how much fuel you have.

Brian my 57 deluxe came with one of those also. Remember, no ovals came with a gas gauge from factory...that stick was it. Of course the dealer could install the accessory gas gauge if a customer wanted one. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

Some of the things I noticed on my '57 Canadian Standard:
- Painted vent window frames and vertical bar
- 3 spoke steering wheel
- No chrome in window rubbers
- No chrome in door window surrounds
- Headliner only in roof panel - bare metal on remainder of inner panels including rear window surround and the two supports that run fore and aft on each side
- Black dash knobs and window cranks
That might help you identify some of the other subtleties!
-----I have all these as well, all except the vent window frames, since whoever i got it from put 1 piecers in there. These are some good ones. I did notice that my seats have white frames which would lead me to believe the aren't OG. No worry, i am tearing them down, going to powdercoat them gloss black... you'll never know just gotta make sure i put the wing nut style to hold them down... |

Yes, I forgot to mention the wingnut seat mounts!
I don't remember what colour the seat frames, ebrake and shifter were. Unfortunately there were no digital cameras back in the day, and I didn't take as many pictures of the car in it's "as found" state as I now wish I had. _________________ I have Lots of parts for sale on Vancouver Island, mostly type 1 but some Type 2/3 as well. |

Would a 57 Canadian custom/standard have one or two horn grills? |

I own a 62 Canadian standard and the ebrake and shifter are both grey on mine. |
