I am a bit stumped at the moment and was hoping for some help. I'm in the midst of a complete refurb of a 1974 Brazilian Kombi which has been coming along great. Any part I have ever needed for the bus has always been using a 1967 part. This makes sense as it appears to be exactly a 1967 split bus. However, when I came to the draglink, after ordering both tie rods and new draglink for a 1967, I have found that the tie rods are perfect but the draglink is too long.......The draglink currently on the bus has a "body" (meaning the bent tube without the threaded end pieces) of 16". The new draglink that came (part number 211 415 701D...) was entirely too long. Its body measured about 3-4" longer and there's no way it will fit. Its very strange since I can't seem to find any differences in the steering box between the 67 and the one found on this bus including the placement of the box itself. When ordering draglinks they don't show any measurements, just part numbers so its impossible to try and match up what I have to a new one. Can anyone tell me the approx sizes of the draglink found on say 1960 Type 2 vs 1962, 67 and 68-70? Just trying to figure out which one I need since its clearly not the 1967 model........Thanks so much. |

Then can you tell me if those used 68 and up are shorter? Just looking for some actual measurements. Thanks for your reply. I'm hopeful I'll find the answer |

Here are pics of 55-67 drag link.
Note that the body lengths are slightly different between a factory DL and an aftermarket DL.
However, the overall length between the captive pin and the end of the threaded tube are almost identical at ~425mm, or about 16 5/8" in your measurement system.
I can offer no insight into either Brazilian or bay window drag links.

Wow! This is so incredibly helpful. What this tells me is that the draglink which SoCal sent me, in fact, was the wrong draglink itself. I called them and spoke with them and they insisted the draglink they sent me was correct. It had the labeling on the plastic wrap it came in as being for a 1950-67 but obviously it wasn't correct. I'll have to give them a call and ask them to send the correct one back to me. Thanks so much for your helpful pictures.......really, really appreciate it.--Rob |
