Hi,
I’ve had a lot of the same issues with my stock ‘73 setup… as for the thermostat control for the preheat flap 113-129-828A, replacement on that is +$100… which is insane… I stumbled across a Volvo part for $16 that I believe does the same and looks almost identical. volvo #9209888 . Hope all that helps if needed. I’m going to order one and report back…

Great find
The valves are adjustable, so even if they are not 100% correct, one could adjust them to give the results one needs. FWIW, running a progressive and wanting all the heat I can get, I adjusted the VW valve to give about 20°F hotter temperatures. |

Good to know they are adjustable. Learn something new every day. Just did a top end rebuild on an engine after dropping an exhaust valve on another engine… so just been going through all of the vac parts and came across this thread. _________________ 1973 ASI Riviera

Fits perfect. Not sure how to test what temp it opens at though. Any ideas are appreciated

I'd attach a hose to whatever port is closed when cold and immerse it in a water bath with a thermometer in it, gently blow on the hose, when it starts making bubbles read the thermometer. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
