Spend time learning diagnostics, spend money on diagnostic tools not fancy socket sets and parts you don't need. _________________ Life is short and the road is long so if you want to see it all you have to drive fast! |

Good job!
Why do you think you need a new oil drain plug? |
Yes, sorry I was more so referring to the washer that apparently at times is good to replace for a good seal. I'm not sure if the plug needs to be replaced but my fear was going there to take it out, finding out that its really been jammed in there and then maybe needing a new plug as well.
I found this taped to my oil filter box, is this the washer / seal you are referring to? I've shared a pic of the seal/washer below, I definitely can't find the plug. See the tune up bundle here which includes a plug/washer: https://www.gowesty.com/product/-/4399/complete-tune-up-bundle-?v=

I hear ya, I won't make a habit out of it. This was just a first attempt at getting my hands greasy and just doing some basic stuff that would need to get done at some point To start with a cleaner slate is all!
I do have some more goal directed issues coming up...
1. Getting a better sense of why she idles fast
2. Cleaning all my grounds because everyone tells me this does magic haha
3. I recently found a rear hatch leak that needs to get sorted out since it rains endlessly in Vancouver and this car will be sitting outside at least part time. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Tin TopClick to view image |

A new hatch seal is easy to put on.

Find a local club and have a fellow T3 member walk with you through the hour or two you need for these jobs.
You can also phone consult Robbie at airschooled.com _________________ .ssS! |

You should be able to get a new drain plug and washer from most any decent autoparts store. You aren't going to be able to know what you really have going on until you remove the old plug though. You could have an insert of various sizes and threads or someone might have just used one of the self tapping oversized plugs. Hopefully though you just have the stock plug along with threads in the case that are in good condition. |

Thanks! I luckily have a good mentor who has restored and owns a vanagon who I’ve been FaceTiming when I’m confused! I just also like posting on here too thank you! I’ve just joined my local T3 Vancouver group and will introduce myself!! _________________ 1984 Vanagon Tin TopClick to view image |
