I tried searching with no luck.

Can anyone help me identify what to look for at swap meets to be sure I get a correct door?

Thanks

Are they the same door or is the 67 a one year only?

For instance, I found these doors at OCTO yesterday, but didn’t purchase one because I couldn’t tell if they were bay or 67. One is marked 70 and I looked at current listings in the split bus classifieds and I couldn’t identify whether these were 67 or bay. That is, unless, 67 and bay doors are the same.

I think they are the same. Here's a '67 but the inner view.

Hm... you could go check the part numbers in the Parts Lists.
The early bay parts list shows 211 829 605 as flap - tank filler to 211 2300 000
Does the late splitty Parts list show the same number for a 67 bus gas flap? If so, it is the same part.

Thanks for pointing out these part documents. I had no idea these existed. This is what I found in the split documentation. I assume I am looking for 117 (I know that the 67 door has no lock on it), part number 211 829 605

So this is what I found in the bay window document.

This means they are the same, but I need an "early bay" door?

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php

In chronological order

#117 211 829 605 is 67 to 71

I dug through my fuel filler flap stash recently, and took this pic showing the difference between a '67 and a bay fuel filler flap.

The '67 flap has two weld nuts for the screws that mount it. The early bay unit has theads going through the sheet metal bracket. It looks like the split one is heavier duty, but I have never seen a bay unit fail.

The bay unit also has a sticker saying which gasoline to use.

They are interchangeable.
