Hi Gang,
When did the sealed beam lights show up in the US?
I'm doing research on a February 1955 sedan.
Was the "Made in Western Germany" tag on all export cars or just the ones destined for the USA?
I'm waiting on the "Birth Certificate" for additional details.
Thanks,
Ted |

There have been documented examples of sealed-beam assemblies dated as early as 1951, but they generally became a mandated M option by 1953.
There are examples of U.S.-market cars having Euro-style lights as late as early 1955, but I believe they are either tourist-delivery cars or the owner is taking artistic liberties in making the car look "more correct."
I believe the "Made in Germany/Western Germany" tags were installed on all officially-exported cars. February 1955 was around the time the tag changed from "Made in Germany" to "Made in Western Germany." _________________ Thanks,
