Ha, I was thinking that too.
How did they handle bugging and monitoring 6,000 rooms?
I'm also wondering what the rooms looked like?
Were they very Soviet bare bones or nice?
It reminds me of this joke:
Quote: |
Three friends are in a hotel room in Soviet Russia.
The first two men open a bottle of vodka, while the third is tired and goes straight to bed. He is unable to sleep however, as his increasingly drunk friends tell political jokes loudly.
After a while, the tired man gets frustrated and walks downstairs for a smoke. He stops in the lounge and asks the receptionist to bring tea to their room in five minutes.
The man walks back into the room, joins the table, leans towards a power outlet and speaks into it:
"Comrade major, we want some tea to room 62 please."
His friends laugh on the joke, until there is a knock on the door. The receptionist brings a tea pot. His friends fall silent and pale, horrified of what they just witnessed. The party is dead, and the man goes to sleep.
After a good night's rest, the man wakes up, and notices his friends are gone. Surprised, he walks downstairs and asks the receptionist where they went.
The nervous receptionist whispers that KGB came and took them before dawn.
The man is horrified. He wonders why he was spared.
The receptionist responds:
"Well, comrade major did quite like your tea gag." |

This postcard was to me from my Grandma. I was 12 so she didn't talk about the decor of the rooms, only talked about how big the hotel was. She said her and Grandpa had to walk four blocks to the hotel restaurant from their room inside the hotel. The hotel was completed in 1967 so I'm sure it was state of the art at the time. _________________ Prosit!

Not to get off topic...
The boat is a 'Larson Thunder-Hawk'. Made in Southern California in the late 50's maybe?
It had 'Fins' and bee-hive shaped tail lights set in the fins and eye brow type turn signals in front. The manufacturer added these so you didn't have to use the trailer lights when towing.
I saved this boat from the CZU fires last year and just sold it a few weeks ago- strange that it's cousin showed up here. |

In line with the boat towing; my grandparents towed a 17' family ski boat type with their ruby red 63. Completely stock car, purchased new. I have seen a couple pictures in the past. Maybe I will dry to digitize it and post up. The man always had a heavy foot regardless. I know he burned exhaust valves like a chainsmoker burns cigarettes.
He sold the car after spinning out one winter and stopping on its roof. Went back to large American iron and V8s. |
