Is it just an optical illusion, or is that a Type 34 Cabriolet in the background? |
I was wondering that too but I think it might be the shadows of the building

I agree but there's also a ton of light on the windshield too.
A Type 34 is like an oven with all the glass.
When I used to drive my '66 to work, I would cover it during the day, otherwise it would be red hot inside even if it wasn't very hot out.
I'm not 100% convinced it's a hardtop but pretty sure based on the shadow pattern _________________ How to Post Photos

If you look through the windshield to where the B pillar would be on the passenger side. If it were a convertible - top up you wouldn't see through since the T34 convertibles have no rear side glass just like the T14 verts. If the top were down we'd see the puffy material from the top. No?

Found in 1964 and 1965 German magazines. Thought the Veedol advert interesting as it has a VW Type III in second and not a Porsche.
And the 1964 1500S Notch frame and body is just interesting. BUT, what is that instead of hubcaps. Was the frame just fresh off the factory line?
What is more amazing to me though is the price of 5900 DM for the 1500S. In USD after inflation, the Notch would only be about $14500.

The man reminds me a lot of VW's former 1980's CEO Dr. Carl H. Hahn. Here's a shot of Dr. Hahn (at far right; copywrited image in gif format which might not easily be displayed here) coincidentally standing by a Squareback, at Dublin Airport (Ireland) in 1965. At that time he was President of VW of America, then located in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

I second that! Good eye.
From top to bottom, tipic German: wrist watch with leather band, shorts with leather belt (Do Americans tend to use shorts with belts??), socks and shoes...
It is most likely Dr. Carl H. Hahn.
Can't vouch for the Variant plate, looks like from Texas but I'm not American... |

Yup, it's a Texas plate (state is across the top, but not all states are like that). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
