In your experienced opinions what is the best full flow option for installing it on my 68 Bug with a 1600DP.
I am avoiding the no drill and tap systems and plan on pulling my virtually brand new pump to tap and block the port and also drill and tap my case ( in car) with the aid of low pressure air and a good shop vac to clear any chips away.
I personally do not want any more manufacturing mistakes from EMPI. I'm EMPI'd out.

Best is to tape the case for the return and get a Shadek pump that cast for full flow. Get a remote filter mount and have a local hydraulic hose shop make your hoses to you specified length and fittings.

I’ve done the tapping with the engine in the car several times, but since CB introduced the in/out maxi pump with 1/2” ports… I haven’t had to tap an assembled engine. It’s just too easy.
But if you’re committed, you can tap it.
Like Glen said, get good hoses. I buy from discounthydraulichose.com and find the prices to be cheaper than the berg set, and I can specify the exact length and ends I want.
Good luck

The last engine I built, 1776, i was going to use a filter pump, but since it didn't clear the exhaust, I went with a CB in/out and it works just fine for that application.

Hey, that's a cool product.
Too easy.
I was looking at mounts for the filter flange but don't like the thought of the ones that mount to exhaust flanges.
Probably inside the drivers side fender?

I'm only seeing pump assemblies with 3/8" NPT threaded in/outs. What am I missing.

Nice. Looks like a replaceable element filter housing.
Exactly where I was thinking of sticking it.
Lines touching the exhaust no problem?

The filter is a Canton Mecca with a replaceable element.

The oil lines pass between the #3 and #4 pipes and do not touch. I had the lines custom made so they are no too long. I also put the mount where the line clear and got a mount with right hand ports vs left hand ports... again for line management.

My mistake, the larger pump is 3/8 and the smaller one they used to list had 1/4" ports. You're fine w the 3/8" npt ports, as thats the size fitting you get in the cover and case with a traditional full flow system anyway.

They still make the ones with 1/4” outlets. Due to space (type 3) I am going to run one to a filter only. Hoping the smaller outlet isn’t going to be an issue…

On my 1641 engine, the no-drill/tap 26mm in/out cover plate style CB Maxi3 with the 1/4" ports keeps the pressure at the pressure switch port at expected levels, without needing larger fitting diameters. I wouldnt worry too much.

The filter and Mocal thermostat sandwich plate is about 18" from the pump (its a bus.. ) and the cooler is another 4 feet away, using 1/2" pipe and fittings beyond the pump.

Just received my CB full flow in/out pump. Can't wait to get it installed.
I also took the lead from Glenn and installed a temp sensor in the top of my filter housing. The EMPI unit got returned and I obtained the better quality Derale unit.
I already had a 14-1.5 tap for chasing drain plug threads so it was easy.

Thanks for the recommendation guys
