Interesting thoughts Ray. By the time I even knew what a Type 4 vehicle was , they had been off the dealer lots for 10 years or so. I can only remember seeing 1 on the road ever, so in Texas where I was growing up, or St. Louis, where I moved to in the early 80's, it would have been a rare sight for me to see, and I would have remember that distinctive styling.
I still remember seeing my first BMW up close in the small town in Texas that we mostly lived in. A Bavaria, at a Junior High School no less. Not sure if it was a visiting person as it left a few days later. But that European Design really stuck out among the 'normal' cars on the parking lot.
Drew me in like a moth to the flame.... Razz Razz I stared and stared at it as I was walking back to my school after band practice....
A type 4 would have done no less.
If I saw Type 3's around, they were always Squarebacks, never Fastbacks.
I did end up buying a Fastback, but it was a rare car to me for the area I lived in.
Maybe if I had lived on either Coast, I would have had more sightings of a Type 4 when they were new.... Think Think That or Austin Texas..... Razz Razz
