Early!
Looks like a prototype with the vents
Interestingly enough, the 'Delikatessen' prototype appears to be very light colored in other shots, like primer, or white or beige. but this shot feels like it is dove blue. wonder if it had been repainted or is just the bad lighting in this particular pic (overcast day).

I was wondering what color it was there too, along with the wheels.

It definitely looks dark like Dove Blue and the front bumper looks like a matching Dove Blue/Silver White too.
The wheels look more like a light color though but different from the bumper color.

surely not lighting - if pale paint looks like mid grey then what a dazzling white their clothes would be Cool

These are discussed in the prototype topic, with the drip rail being a different length, and the hubcaps being painted versus chrome.

Yes, on the Treasure Chest window - I saw that too.

I wonder if it's actually glass or if it's plexiglas

also treasure chest door is hinged on the lower part.

The Waltl Kohlruss coachbuilt we had before.

interesting report on the Delikatessen panel. I honestly thought it was never meant to be a real business van, but just for early VW show purpose.
That excerpt saying it is the bakery's van changes the game. it appears to be darker or maybe dove blue in that lower pic as well.
Also the panels of the short side are much smoother in that livery. early pics of the prototype show pretty wavy, scratch built and 'early' hand built coachwork.

I assume that it may have been gone over, paint prepped and repainted and possibly given or sold to that baker ?

Weird how the rockers and that area are totally wasted but the front door bottoms look nice.

Dog legs might be wasted too though

These look like British cars, so RHD.
These style of plates were also used in the colonies, though.

Could that be the Single Cab’s rear bumper on the bed?
Weird placing of the plate, however…and overriders.

The TM of the GTM plate would mean it was a Luton (quoting The Lion King, “never go there, son”), Bedfordshire, England issued plate…probably in ‘54.
The FN on the Truck’s plate on the right tells us it was a Canterbury, Kent, England issued plate.

Wouldn't standing water rot out the open bed, then the water would get into the loading area and rockers?
Doors (and doglegs) probably a little better protected.

The second pic was here, before - about the first one i am not sure.
Let me give you some context on both. As you might have see in the coachbuild threads here in TS Barndoor forum, i am quite interested in the topic.
And often some pics get shared on Facebook - but as pic hunters post them, they hardly share any info or whatsoever. Of course this results in lots of questions by other users and in most cases the summary in these comments is, that every bus with custom added window in the roof is a Kohlruss. Thats what annoyed me and why i started an own fb group about Coachbuilt BD busses. In this group i do collect some pics that lately appeared on the web (e.g. in forums like TS) or on social media. Of course i then add some other content or info to them to tell people what conversion it really is.

Long story short.. both photos show bus conversions from coachbuilders in Vienna, Austria. The top pic shows Mr. Alfred Machaczek. He was workshop master at "Karosseriewerk Karl Schreiner & Söhne" during the early 1950s. He is the guy in the front who cuts out the windows by hand. Luckily through him lots of info about Austrian coachbuilders time era have been preserved for posterity.

The second pic on the other hand, shows a bus by coachbuilder Weingartshofer. Unfortunately this is the only pic or info about him that i have so far.

I'd like to invite you to join my FB group or to follow my instagram account for extensive info about vintage photos like these - and for more knowledge about these coachbuilders.

I believe there is a whole series of pictures with that family on their European tour posted on here somewhere. Maybe even in color?
