So I love good music like the next guy, but my van has no stereo and I don't care enough to pull the dash/doors/etc. all apart to put one in. I have been using a bluetooth speaker called the Alltec Lansing Waterjacket
https://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-LifeJacket-Wa...4&th=1
when camping and I have to say that it's pretty darn good. I'm no hardcore audiophile but Dylan sounds like Dylan and Coltrane sounds nice too. Wondering if others are getting by without a stereo and if there are more elaborate systems of multiple bluetooth speakers that might fill the van up with music while driving. I moved on from my mixed tapes and all the music I will ever need is now on my iPhone. _________________ 1986 Westy

I use one of those Altec Lansing speaker things. Set it on the top of the instrument console connected to the smart phone and it works well. Actually better because I don't get the Bass vibration in the door from the 4" speakers which I cannot seem to avoid!
The portability is great and almost indestructable. Not sure what it would take to destroy it 'cause Altec hasn't posted a video of that yet! _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I have a JBL bluetooth speaker that I use when at a campsite (not too loud!) or listening to books or podcasts before bed in the van. It's easier to deal with than the van's stereo.
I like my too-loud stereo for driving and tailgating. _________________ Joe T.

Oontz Angle 3 - this unit was previously recommended on another thread - great sound, great bass, great battery life - sits on either the picnic table or Westy dash - currently ~$25 on Amazon. I have one for the Westy and one for home use. Love it!

I'm ALL for a bluetooth speaker in the van (I didn't want to spend the money for a bluetooth friendly stereo to replace one that was otherwise fine).
We've got a Wonderboom 2, which has been great. The battery has never died on us and it sounds really good. My one nitpick is that on a tight turn or a stop, you can guarantee the thing is gonna tip over and start rolling. We've gotten used to it, though. |

This is the one I have too. I have a decent stereo in the van with component speakers and it sounds great but I don't want to blast it in order to hear it when laying in the hammock or sitting at the picnic table. A small portable speaker allows me to put the sound where I need it and not disturb others (I do that pretty well on my own). I use also use it in the garage, in the park, etc. One of these speakers is a must have for me nowadays.
