There was some discussion of this bus on my instagram feed, where I am also posting all these photos.
These photos are all from "Firm friends of the VW transporter", which was published in the late '50s or early '60s. They retouched a bunch of the photos to make the buses look more modern. In this photo, they made it look like it has the roof overhanging the windshields and a rear bumper, but neither look quite right. This is a very early barndoor, like before chassis number 20-02817. It has no upper panel vents, short driprail, etc. It also has three dimensional logos, not just painted logos. It may have been a primer delivered bus, which are possibly the only early buses that didn't have chrome hubcaps.
