Don't think they'd display a lowlight at the 1960 Turin show.

Lowlight or do you mean any VWs?

They had a VW section in 1955:

I couldn't find any images quickly with a VW in 1960 but definitely tons of other makes.

I was just referring to the fact that that 1960 was the first year of the KG facelift model with the reprofiled front wings, the car in that display is the earlier model. VW would definitely have been at the show.

Got it, they probably got the year wrong.

Please, what is the source for Turin and 1960? The Swiss Automobil Revue published this (or a very similar) picture in their report about the Frankfurt auto show in 1957.

eBay auction

Can you post the other photo from 1957?

I found this photo from 1957, maybe it's the same car but not on a platform?

Thank you for the Ebay link. The text on the backside of the Ebay picture says: "NEU: Karmann-Ghia-VW als Cabriolet!" (NEW: Karmann-Ghia-VW as convertible!). The Karmann-Ghia convertible was shown for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1957. Unfortunately I don't have the following pictures in better quality, but this is the picture from the Automobil Revue in September 1957:

The German magazine Auto, Motor und Sport showed the same car from another perspective:

Since it has an export plate, is it likely that this car is brand new? Looks very new to me. If so, I find it interesting that the nose grills both have bent fins. Anyone that's had a non-lowlight Ghia, knows how easy these bend but I would have thought they would be very straight when the cars were new.

Yes they were typically issued to new cars bought through the "US Tourist Scheme." You ordered your car through a local dealer in the US and were flown to Germany to collect your car from a reception centre and used it for a driving holiday in Germany. Return it to the reception centre and it was shipped on to you whilst you flew home to await its arrival. I have my export plate hanging on the wall above my computer screen as I type. Smile

As for the "bent" fins, I think its likely to be an optical illusion caused by the use of a wide angle lens and the low viewpoint.

Is it missing the turn signal covers or are they clear? Looks like I can see the bulbs?

Meanwhile: please overlook the obvious Beetle because there's a classy two tone Karmann-Ghia down the line.
And for all the VW fans, there's even a Transporter in this caption too!
