Even the German word for this references "mile": Meilenstein (sounds like my len shtine). |

Well that looks good, did you have the offset specially made?
Are you using the same wheels front and back?
Nice work |

Hi Ian, thanks and yes I hade them made. I like that classic smoothies look on a KG Maybe two tone, not sure yet what will go well with the manila yellow and not using white wall tires...
Starting with 195/55-16 I need to see if I can get more under the body in the rear, but I doubt it. Fronts, 195 max but need to check if they will fit.
Body mods, except for some minor fender flare rolling, is no option in my case. _________________ Stealth Ghia Transformation: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7226044&highlight=#7226044

How about a stock look from a '64 and '65, using slightly deeper/wider 16" trim rings than the original 15" Lemmerz ones so that they extend deeper down along the outer rim? You can find such rings that are either smooth along their depth, or have a rib for an additional visual break. Here's a shot of Sebastian Gaeta's Manila Yellow original '64 Ghia with the stock 4" black-painted 15" smoothies and the rings. |

Those brackets are good. the alignment for the sway bar looks much better.
With those master cylinders with the tube sticking out into the foot well, sometimes you need to shorten the tube or increase the inner radius of the tube to stop the push rod binding when the pedal is fully depressed.
Don't make it too short though, as the seal in the master cylinder seals against it.
If you need photo I can send one |

Hi Lars,
I just stumbled upon this thread and what can I say?! Wow, great work! I like your thinking outside the box and I am really looking forward to the progress in your ghia, the gearbox and finally your big engine.
Keep up the great work!
Cheers from Wolfsburg,
Tobi |

Hi Tobi, great to hear from you!
Your own 2.8 Oxy really inspired me a lot! I have most of the parts together for mine and may start an extra thread on the engine build soon.
The chassis has been taking forever but its coming along now, sorry it will not fit the cal look with the bottom end also lowered
Cheers

Lars, the sand bag idea should work, I haven't tried one.
I use a leather bag full of lead shot to 'back it up'. I know some peeps also use steel shot. You'll need a helper to hold it I imagine. I tend to start with a steel hammer then go to the softer hammer.
I made the grease cap on the right this way, then pressed the outer rim flat, then sanded and polished off the peen marks.
it will be interesting to see what other tools are recommended for metal shaping. |
