The fully painted "done room" is filling up. I got the 3 doors painted yesterday and really happy how they came out. Only a single run on the back door beltline, got 4 coats built up using long flash times. After i paint I let the parts sit and dont touch them all night. In the morning i take fully dried parts off the hooks, keeps me from touching wet paint and being impatient.
I have an old crappy camera, the doors look better than pics show, really. I double checked and the parts needing paint room is empty. Body next. I plan to break it down to 4 sections. Today is the bed sides and rear. The other sections will be the sides plus nose and rear window area, then the roof and finally the load bed. Not necc in that order. All these areas have simple to mask off locations so no ugly paint lines expected.
Wish me luck!

Its official, I painted a bus. Bucket list check mark. Was cool to see it unmasked for the first time. Feel free to make fun of all the newspaper I used to mask and all the extra $$ i wasted on masking tape. It worked.
Im working on collecting equipment for color sanding, need a buffer and some wool pads, 800, 1000, 1200 discs... After sanding im not sure where the rebuild starts, wire harness? or? Still no trans, soon. Im going to have a lot of questions.
As i looked thru my parts inventory, i realize the parts I took off will need some elbow grease and some will need to be replaced. I located some needed assembly parts at Drag Day in Irwindale on Halloween. Picked up tail light assemblies for LED's, lenses, front trim rings for headlights. I must have checked 20 buses to see what glass and set up they have. Half were running euro glass, lots of mismatched Hella, VW but I think I figured out what I need. Clear US Glass w/ SB19 SB20 SB21? My DC was delivered to UF, San Francisco.

Congrats on all of your hard work and attention to detail. You will have a great-looking Double-Cab to cruise around in sooner than you think! I love my '59 DC. You'll have a ball with yours. DC's RULE!

Moving on...I lie to myself a lot, its a trick I use. I told myself while sanding the gates for the umpteenth time before paint, "'this will be the last time". Then after i painted i had to color sand the entire thing again and again, and again...Spent a month color sanding...800, 1000, 1200, 1500. Yeah, I made rookie mistakes, burned thru a few times. I spent an entire weekend repainting 3 gates and 3 doors, and sanding them again. Im 98% done. I have 6 or 7 small little fixes i still need give some love. Think i sprayed slightly over 2 gallons in total...so far.
Now that the bus is painted most of my OG parts look like crap next to the shiny, so im on the hunt for better replacements. I hit Pomona swap and picked up 2 really nice SB19 SB20 SB21 clear lenses, some Brazilian turn sig lenses I can use til i locate some nice Hella plastic, a complete headlight so I can figure out how to get mine back together (i noticed when i got home it was earlier screw terminal unit) a square top fuel pump, engine lid latch handle and a shifter extension. Very few sellers, kinda odd for last event before Christmas.
I pulled out the old wire harness and am prepping for the new. I need to get a multi meter or something (suggestions welcome) to test everything as i get it in place.
I pulled out the roof panels and got some insulation in place. There were two pieces of horse hair pads up there, i dont think they did too much. I used some old Fatmat my BIL gave me and purchased more 100 mil butyl w/ alum backing. Over that i glued up some bubble wrap insulation. I ran the wire for a rear interior light too.
My OG roof panels are in pretty good shape other than where i once made the mistake of using tape on them, i need a couple touch ups.
Trying to smooth out a couple of places where they sagged. I have not used any moisture yet, just pressing for now. Dont know if getting them damp will distort the color on the side I look at.
Thats all i got for now, its Taco Tuesday. _________________ GhiaBuild

Update on my recent progress on the DC.
I was able to get all the hard brake lines routed, thanks to Nlorntson and GermanKrew for posting pics in the gallery, saved me.
I also got some insulation behind the fuel tank area and fuel tank installed. Added a drain to the overflow at fill area.
I originally planned to have my M/C rebuilt and sleeved but it got a bit pricey. I found the same part the rebuilder in Canada recc at Rockauto, $49 bucks for IAP dual circuit 67, "one year only"....
Removed everything from the dash, buffed it and pulled all the old wiring. Then pulled thru the new harness. Pulling it in the easy part, a 30 minute job to tape it up and pull into place.
Plan to paint black parts tomorrow then finish the brake lines and get the M/C in. Get my springplates in and the transmission too.
I also made a stop at WW and burned some Benjamin's there. New shocks, torsion donuts, heater tube, seat pads, backing plate seal kit, the seals for the overhead vent system.....bunch of stuff to keep me busy. _________________ GhiaBuild

Heres my new transmission. Stock gearing w/ 3.88 R&P, Hardened gears, the whole "ProStreet" version with super diff. plus nosecone w/ reverse lite switch. Kevin used no seam rubber boots like OG. I got the spacers for rear axle backing plates from him too.
Getting it in was another 3/4 of a day job for me, little longer than expected because I like to fix mistakes.

Once i figured out i grabbed the wrong mount things moved forward. Got RGB's torqued in correct order, then front mount, mid mount and cradle mounts. Shocks all in too. Starting to come together.
With the trans in I started on the backing plates. Got WW kits.
Got about half way into it and realized i made another mistake. I had rights on left side, left on right. The E brake hole was what told me to hit reverse and remove asap. All the gaskets, still wet, came apart and i was able to reuse and get it done correct.
