Someone will eventually mention the ad and then suggest $27k is his reserve which will turn off a lot of potential bidders.
The car really needs a new paint job and some metal repair where the fender is bubbling up. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I would guess mcmmd (seller) knows of this thread. Maybe he forgot to delete the listing. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Ok. I forgot about the Samba ad but someone just told me. I told BAT I had the car listed on CL and they didn't say anything.
I realize any savvy buyer knowing all these facts could try to guess my reserve but for now it is still just a reserve and will remain undisclosed until and if the auction reaches it.
As far as the paint, yes it has flaws and to be perfect or just better it, would need a respray. But it still is a beautiful car and if it sells, I am certain the buyer will be happy with it.
This is the only time I have done a BAT auction and that shows, pretty sloppy start but nothing to do now, the damage is done. Flame on.... I can take it!
Also thanks for any positive comments and support! _________________ Martin

I wouldn't stress to much. It's a good Ghia
The BAT audience is much broader than here.
The market is strong right now and will pay accordingly. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

That’s a beautiful 59. Thanks for posting John. That Agave green with the white top works well with the lowlight. |

Ghiagirls anthracite coupe back in October of 20, is very similar in color but the white wall tires along with painted wheels really makes a big difference. The wheels on this car just don't work. White walls and grey rims would have spruced up this car nicely and brought more attention. It's a well cared for car that should have at least topped $30k or more in my opinion. _________________ Marc

Not sure if this belongs here as it is not from bring-a-trailer but here's a Ghia with engine fire damage in New Jersey. Could be an easy repair (famous last words! )

Doesn't look too bad for most on this site repair wise, but as you said, there could be danger looking. Site says it has a salvage title. I've always wondered how hard it is to register a salvage vehicle. I guess it depends on the state. I imagine California would be a nightmare.

Salvage titles can’t be hidden as they are tagged nationwide. If it’s in one states system it’s in all and salvage titles don’t drop out. There are some states that don’t title older vehicles I’ve read so not sure how it works there. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Vermont does not title anything older than 15 yrs old. But if the car is moved to another state, I would imagine the rebuilt status will come back into play? _________________ Marc

OK, thanks Brau, I have never purchased any vehicle with a salvage title so didn't know how it worked. It's sad that insurance companies will just total these older cars because of their age. An insurance company tried to do that to my Ghia when some ass hat 4x4 truck driver decided to back up over my hood at a stop light. I got estimates from classic VW repair shops in So Cal certifying my Ghia was worth more than their estimate. They weren't going to budge until I complained I was having some neck pain and it could ruin my job in the military, they told me to go to a repair shop of my choice and they covered the entire repair....Gotta play hardball sometimes. When I get mine finished, I plan to pay for classic car insurance for sure.

Thanks. I sort of over reacted because I made such a stupid blunder! It is a good Ghia and I agree with everything you said. AND, I'll be happy to keep it, if it doesn't reach my price. _________________ Martin

It's quite good. Flicking thought the photos I see
Lots of photos suggests a willingness to be transparent.
The opportunity to re-chrome some of the bright work was missed.
The RHS heater box is disconnected from the vent control wire. Just hanging there.
No engine number stamped
The corrosion on the VIN plate might be an indicator to its previous condition
No hole at the bottom of the spare tyre well.
This is generally a presentable vehicle. The minor points I mentioned can be fixed up while having fun with it.

It does look good. Braukuche and King Karmann will surely find the hidden problems. What makes me laugh in the comments is how it should have blue and yellow plates instead of the old style black and yellow, which California has issued for several years now, people love them, that why they came back in style. It's obviously not stock paint or upholstery but does look good. Constructive real comments like Brau and King are really more helpful than the color of a license plate......geez.
