You'll want to get familiar with www.ratwell.com , it's got lots of cool stuff, like this: https://www.ratwell.com/technical/EngineRemoval.html

FLAPS is forum code for Friendly Local Auto Parts Store, those lights were available at any parts store, or truck stop, or RV store, even Fred Meyer and other department stores.

Robbie (Airschooled) has posted a part number for new injectors from NAPA, all good reviews on them at this time, maybe he'll join in, if not I can search it out.

Nice find Cool PM me with some EFI needs when you get to that point. I might have some stuff I’m willing to sell you. Will pass them along to you for what I paid for them.

Like these Wink I had an injector shop service these 5 years ago. They have not been used since the refresh. You got dibs. And other EFI parts should you need. I want to see this on the road. My buddy’s have dibs on my stash. So other folks reading this. Don’t PM about what I got. Unless you actually know me Wink

Did you buy a Bentley Service manual yet? Also, this should come in handy.

OK... Read the most excellent manual referenced by Xevin and I think I'm in pretty good shape component wise. Will post some pics in a couple of days for everyone's consideration.

Except for the injectors. Do you have all the parts you need?

Have you seen this thread? This should help you take inventory of what you have and possibly don’t have.

Steve,

Somehow you managed to text my office landline. Laughing

You need a set of small and large injector seals to get the factory clamps to hold the new injectors in place. I prefer the “stepped” seal as they fit the clamp better, but most outfits sell the generic cylindrical seals. Photo shows correct and incorrect installation.

Hey Robbie! Yes... after studying a set of old injectors a friend gave me I discovered the existence of said seals. Actually found those at the local Autozone and proceeded with installation yesterday. Think I got it right... will post pics in a day or two. Thanks!

Well, had a lot of fall chores to do around my place and, between that and my payin` job, I'm just now finding time to move forward on this project. So, with Robbie's guidance, I bumbled my way through the whole injector thing...

Gonna have to do a little back-tracking, though, because one theme I've noticed here on Samba is "replace fuel lines"- So, pay no attention to the wrong style hose clamps, etc,- they will be dealt with summarily. Next, started piddling with the engine tin, whereupon I noticed a rather obvious gap at the drivers side rear:

Hmmm... that ain't right. Prompted me to take a closer look at the engine bay, and- rut-ro...

My spidey sense tells me that this rig once had a big ol`AC compressor right about there, which is probably what this mega-bracket once held-

So, will try to source replacement metal, or may have to break out some scrap stuff and the old MIG and go to fabricating. (I can sorta weld).
Next, started studying the wiring situation. Was making good progress figuring what goes where when I got stumped by the female connector in the center of this pic:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Research revealed it goes to the auxiliary air regulator. OK, but where is that gizmo? I got a used one from my friend who recommended ditching all the EFI stuff and installing a carb- Hence, he has a lot of scrap EFI stuff at his shop. Verified it's the correct one via part number-

Don't see anything on this engine that remotely resembles this thing! Which begs the question- maybe this is not a 78 engine? Any way I can verify engine year from this number?

Finally, anybody know what goes here?

I got nothing in the box o parts that matches.
Thanks to all of you in advance for keeping alive my fantasy that this thing might someday actually run Very Happy .

That is where your EGR valve attaches. It takes a bit of plumbing to make the system work

Wait... what's wrong with kissing your sister? Shhh

Arrow Look closely at your wiring harness plugs. They are color coded for a reason and the Bentley describes why.

I can pretty much guarantee you that Vanagon kitchenette is far superior to the Baywindow kitchenette, but not sure if the refrigerator gas venting is set up the same. Probably not. And if you keep that excellent 3-way refrigerator, replace the cooling fan with a computer cooling fan and also do the Vanagon Bentley mod to the air priming pump so you will have a really cold refrigerator that is easy to start.

Hope this photo dump helps... it is how I did our 1977 refresh. You can scroll down about halfway and see some of the items you recently asked questions about.
