Chrome hubcaps, and tall mirror arms on both sides.
Steering wheels on the left, and cargo doors on the left.
'55-'57 era Doubledoor kombis? I have never seen a doubledoor kombi earlier than '59. Anyone else seen an early one? _________________ .

Great pic. Looks a lot like a '58 Chevy Station Wagon but the SC is fried egg. |

So 1962, at the earliest. Great pic, and thank you for sharing it. At first glance, I thought it was hauling a huge steel girder LOL _________________ Jack Staggs

Didn't one of the European countries have buses that were left-hand-drive with left side cargo doors? _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I thought Swedish at first, but the logos sound more Italian. Could be Italian candy sold in Sweden. Can anybody identify that style of license plate from the '50s? _________________ .

Those are indeed Swedish licence plates. Italian ones were white on black, and tiny at the front. |

OK, then the buses are almost certainly LHD left hand cargo door. Bummer, I was hoping that there was a chance that some early doubledoor kombis were floating around at some point. _________________ .

I would not rule out the existance of an earlier doubledoor. VW built almost anything possible if you ordered it. Maybe not for private customers but government entities got almost anything. Even the double sliding door with sunroof Vanagon which they would not build for private customers because it was supposedly unsafe. The German boarder guards had a whole fleet of them. _________________ - Michael

This bus photo was posted a few posts earlier. I can remember buying parts from Greg's VW shop in the 80s. It was in Redwood City or Menlo Park south
the San Francisco. I still see him at local VW shows once in a while. |
