Hello all, I'm looking at this bug and am hoping someone can confirm that the color is Panama beige? I'm fairly certain the exterior has been resprayed at some point but I'm hoping it's at least an original color. From what I can gather it's a late year 1964 and I think that color was an option for that half of the year? Any information would be much appreciated! I tried to get a picture of the plate under the spare tire but it didn't come out.

Panama beige was a choice for 64. Nice looking project. If it is a respray it looks pretty close to the OG color, yours may be a little lighter. That car is missing the hood and side trim pieces but that would be too difficult to fix. |

Lighting present where the picture was taken plays a big part in how things look, but I would have to say that car looks much closer to Pearl White than it does to Panama Beige. Both came with the same brown colour option interior.

Looks like Pearl White to me.
I look at an original paint Panama Beige car every day…

Great looking car, House. I'll try to get some better pictures of this car outside when I see it next. It definitely looks more white in the pics I have posted than I think it does in person. I've search the technical section and can't really find an answer, so does anyone know if the plate in the wheel well up front would even tell me the original color? I know when I entered the M-code for my westy in the decoder it told me a lot of information but thinking the plate in the beetle may not? Thanks! _________________ 71 Westfalia

Nicholas the metal plate up front wont tell you the color. Bugs had a sliver colored sticker/decal near that metal plate that had the color and VW paint code on it, they are usually missing or messed up so bad you cant read them too bad they didnt have some sort of metal tag for the color. Bugs dont have M-Codes on the plate like the Buses. Panama Beige L-572 |

The paint code in the wheel well (if you're lucky to have one) looks like this (from the gallery):

Thanks everyone. I can see the remnants of the silver colored sticker so I'll have to see if I can make anything out on it - not holding my breath on that though... Ultimately the color isn't the determining factor on if I can pick the car up or not. Hopefully happy updates to come!

September 1963 build date. I believe it to be Panama Beige.
I will get some pics of the upholstery which may be original when I stripped the seats. |
