I am restoring a 1958 beetle ragtop and I need really good photos of the ragtop assembly. I have not found any good, clear, parts breakdown diagrams or photos. Any help would be appreciated. Most parts are missing so I need information so I can proceed. Thanks! I restored my 1965 Beetle in 2013 and it was in Hot VWs magazine. I though that would be my last restoration but at 78 I am into another for my son! |

Have you visited Grumpy’s Metals?
Also, a few of the ragtop builds have great write ups, showing a lot of what you are after! _________________ Jimbo

Hit the gallery button under my signature and scroll to get all the pages.
The obsolete air cooled documentation parts list is pretty key. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

Albert Silvas is the go-to guy on these!
He completely restored my ragtop innards.

Another question. I would guess that all the parts to the ragtop were painted car color from factory, correct? If not, I would guess black. As much as this forum has helped me in the past, especially in 2013, I need to contribute more. I have contributed wiring diagrams in 2013. I already have thousands of photos related to this restoration that actually started part-time 5 years ago. This project started with the ragtop being cut out of a totaled junker and welded into this 1958. I am a professional photographer/videographer and I have been restoring VWs for 40 years now. |

Chris Vallone on YouTube has excellent videos on the ragtop parts and restoration! |

Framework finished in semigloss black, latching mechanism plated. Refer to the images Larmo63 posted.

I would not take advice from Chris Vallone. _________________ Type 1

There is a thread concerning the webbing straps that connect the hardware. They reduce stress on the ragtop cover. Somehow 12" sticks in my head, but I'm not sure if that is rivet to rivet length or 12" overall. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

Go to https://grumpysmetal.com/. They have the parts you need and a video on their site on how to install them. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

All this helps me so much because restoring a ragtop is new to me. Restoring a 1958 Beetle is too, because this 58 will be the oldest I have ever owned/restored. I could do without information obtained on the Samba. That goes for my 1965 restored in 2013. |
