Yes, saw this on EBay too. It´s not what it seems to be on the first glance. It´s most likeley NOT a ´51 Samba just because of the white roof.
- ´51 Samba had black wiper and arms, chrome was ´52-on
- this one here got the later bumper with the larger lic. plate space (or am I wrong?)
- that isn´t a piano hinge vent, is it?

The typo style on the lic plate is NOT German pre 1956, but Austrian. I would bet this here is one the Austria conversion Busses. Kohlruss & Co they LOVED the white roof coming along with SWR / chestnut. In fact, it´s easy to agree that this ´51 only three color scheme is the finest for any early Bus, so the Austrian coachbuilders choosed it quite often while VW canceled it, most likely due to the cost.

I'd not consider this as a general law. We have seen many pics of 51s with chrome or silver wipers, and also some 52s (at least mine) with black ones.

They are Piano hinge to me.

I agree on the bumper, but i think it's a genuine samba nevertheless.

Its interesting to note that the Austrian DLX above also has a later mirror arm and no evidence of og mirror bolt holes on the a post. so it must have been repainted as well.
Black Austrian front plates were only 380mm wide and the BD/Wolfsburg bumper gap is 430mm. So it is really difficult to tell if its a pre or post 55Wb bumper. personally I think it is an og BD bumper.
the pic must be pre 1961 ( no turn signals added to front of bus, still using semaphores for directionals). It seems to have a white steering wheel. Most all KRSS buses would have black steering wheels because they started out as std or panels.

It looks like it has a reverse light or other type of light on the left hand side under the stock taillight too

very nice pic !
The bus also seems to have a reversed twotone color scheme. (dark roof and lower body portions). It is Austrian registered and in Steiermark region (St).
The oval has post 1956 German plates.
I do not seem to recognize the landscape though. Maybe Huetti sees this and can answer if this is the Frauenkopf und Drachenwand summits next to Mondsee in Salzburg/Oberösterreich ?

^Killer bus, all blacked out, twin rearview mirrors and a foglamp.
Wondering about the company logo and brand name .
Totally reminds me of the currently used logo of the Bavarian Tegernsee brewery.

I was thinking that too.

I see lines on the roof that look like the outline of skylights

the panel areas seem narrower between the skylites than on a regular DLX. I have seen that on quite a few coachbuilt buses ( where they simply used narrow flat steel or aluminum stock as a glass divider).
