My sliding door latch has popped it’s spring. This is the mechanism inside the molding piece that would keep the door open when parked on a hill.
I’m wondering what are the odds that I can find a suitable replacement spring? And if so, can I pop the mechanism out without taking the door off?
Anyone here have any experience with this little scenario? _________________ Auggie

which part? the upper black lock assy by the front edge of the door or the 2 fingers with the pin on the rear of the door?
if the latter, you can get it off with the door closed, but it's a 2 person job. may as well replace the spring and the rubber buffer

same guy had/has the bigger bumper that the pin goes thru too _________________

That’s it! But for those prices and shipping from Europe, I guess I might as well get the whole unit from eBay...
Just thought maybe I could find a replacement spring in a hardware store for like 50 cents, lol!
Any tips for getting the mechanism out? _________________ Auggie

those prices?
life is easy, why make it hard?
for less than 20 bucks you have the exact part you need shipped to your door
at the hardware store they go spring they bring you to spring aisle, you leave with 5 different springs
get the right one the first time
to
your
door _________________ 1971 Campmobile Tin-Top

because cheap vw owners...that's why
it's a very specialized spring...you will not find another one easily with the same dimensions let alone spring rate. you should be jumping for joy that someone has the part to fix your shitbox….I know I do when I find the most obscure part to keep my junk running.
I have never seen it offered stateside. that guy has some good shit, and I have bought from him several times....
so...buy new and get 40 more years out of it or ebay some wore out piece of shit, go thru the hassle of replacing it to do it again in a week. your choice
man...you hand up a solution on a silver platter and 15 bux worth of stuff is too expensive. don't even know why I bother anymore _________________

Bic pens disagree with you…
An excellent stop-gap while one waits for the correct parts to arrive.

That's some nice new parts there! I sell the generic universal for $30+shipping in the US. Rubber bumper transfer required.

that spring "fix" isn't even worth the fucking aggravation of dealing with removing the sliding door cover.
but, we all put different values on our time. evidently i rate my time pretty high _________________

Not at all. Happy to pay $10 plus shipping for this needed part. You should see what I paid for the plastic seal between the alternator and tin. It came from Austrailia! _________________ ============
