I have been looking at various ways that others have installed removable aprons & had planned to use dzus fasteners. However since I am using the lightweight CCC fiberglass cleanup panel I think I can accomplish the on/off process with heavy duty 3M Velcro.

Pulled fenders to look for flaws under sunlight and decided to apply a nice thick coat of por15 to the inner fenders.
Make sure you have good ventilation when working with por15….I started to feel a little nauseated and had to take a break!

Finally got the nerve up to shoot some paint. My 1st attempt since 1985. Probably could have used a little more work but since I’m building a driver and not a show car it will do.
I will shoot the fenders next after some more prep work.

Went to the BugOut in Farmington yesterday and was inspired to get mine finished(paint wise) b4 the temperature dropped to much. Unfortunately in my haste I over did it. I applied the clear too heavy and got runs and sags. Not sure if I’m holding the gun too close or moving too slow.
According to the manufacturer, the clearcoat should be hard enough to sand in about 12-16hrs dependent on temp. Set me back a couple days including wasted paint.
Seat backs came out great!

LED taillights. Wife said I’ve done too many mods at this point to install stock taillights so I’m going with these with he chrome blacked out. I will probably go with a 3rd brake light mounted in the grill.

Moving into my DYI paint booth to finish prep work. Hope to be shooting paint early next week. After that the real work begins of color sanding and buffing to a mirror finish.

Thanks, I can’t wait to start putting it back together!
“Riviera Blue” a rare Porsche color. I was taking a chance when I choose this color since I’ve never actually seen this color in person…..only pixs on the web of BMWs, Porsches and Audis in this color.

I like the color change aspect of this color from direct sunlight to shade. This Porsche Boxster looks like 2 different colors but it’s the same car.
This pix of my vw shows those 2 colors.

Yea…I should have listened to my wife. After it was painted in the two tone scheme I realized I’d made a mistake. The more I looked at it the worse it got and I knew it would be dated and out of style b4 I could get it on the road. That’s pretty much why I shelved it for the last 20yrs & worked on my 73 thing, my wife’s 67 splitbus & home projects and in the meantime continue to accumulate parts & materials for a redo.
The engine is a 2332 built by Kevin Shull from SC over 10yrs ago and has only briefly been run for just a few minutes out of the car. I’ve since acquired a set of NOS 48 Dells & hopefully another small jackpot at Cherokee Casino will get me a set of CB Perf wedgeport heads. Beyond that possibility a Rodney Adams blowthru turbo setup. |
