Ok, so I got no feedback on whether or not I can safely drill new holes for the visor dart that doesn’t match up with the existing holes.
I was also concerned that the other visor would not be placed in the same position — hoping it would be close enough.
So, given this, my current thinking is to drill new holes for both visor darts.
They would then be symmetrical and, as a bonus, the holes would be tight enough to hold in the screws!
Fair warning, if our car has four little screws poking out the top, its all your fault. |
Why do you think the holes are different or won't line up? Take a dental pick (Harbor Freight) and start poking around where you think they should be. The drill bit might grab the headliner and do some damage. _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

I just can’t get the visor on the rod far enough. And I’ve pushed it on so hard that I cannot get it off to fix it. Tried silicone, heat, cold, hammer, pulling, pushing, twisting. It just won’t come off. So I am trying to salvage the situation. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

So this engine is supposedly from 1938:
Man that looks familiar. How is it different from what’s in our car? _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

It’s not much different on the surface but here’s a list
Aluminum case vs magnesium
No accelerator pump on the carb
Air cleaner not oil bath
Fuel pump has no provision for filter
Distributer is mechanical advance only
“D” regulator?
Seamed fan shroud
No breather on the oil fill
25hp stock v 36hp _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Interesting.
Are all these deemed improvements or were there other factors driving the changes?
Is the coil on top of the distributor? _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

Nope that's a flat top Bosch distributor, I have one on my Ghia. _________________ John.

Improvements coupled with cheaper production costs. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

So, what we are running is 1930’s technology with improvements.
Perhaps this is the reason the guy in the MGA behind me at Lime Rock said our car was:
“A beautiful piece of s——.”
The guy in front of us in the Austin-Healy said:
“This is the most beautiful car here.”
At least they both agreed it was a looker.
Here they are discussing it:

He was a fun guy— I liked him and told him I would share his view on The Samba.
He was a little taken aback.
He presented his comment as though it was something upon which all could agree. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

Didn’t mean to cause a ruckus — I thought it was funny.
On another note, I warned him that I would be slow up hill but he later told me I was speedy.
Do I detect a slight revision of opinion? _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0
